The way in
Admission is based on your diploma and proven English or Korean (TOPIK) proficiency. Some programs offer a preparatory language year.

Step by step:
- Pick a university and semester. Korea runs two intakes - spring (March) and fall (September). Fall applications usually open March-June, spring ones September-November; exact windows vary by university.
- Language certificate. English-taught programs take IELTS or TOEFL; Korean-taught degrees require TOPIK level 3 or higher. TOPIK runs six times a year - book your session early.
- Documents. Apostilled school certificate or diploma, transcript, motivation letter, passports; creative majors add a portfolio.
- Application and fee. Submissions go through each university's admission portal; most schools charge an application fee.
- D-2 visa. After the acceptance letter you'll need proof of funds - a bank statement of roughly $10,000-20,000 - and a medical certificate including a tuberculosis test.
- Housing. Book the dormitory right after admission - Seoul campuses fill up fast.
Admission with an 11-year school certificate
Korean universities accept 11-year secondary school certificates directly - no foundation year needed. Admission decisions rest on your GPA, language certificate and motivation letter; most universities hold no entrance exams in the classic sense. Master's degrees in Korea
A bachelor's diploma gets you into Korean graduate schools directly. This is where the GKS scholarship has the most seats: roughly 700 positions a year for master's and doctoral students versus about 170 for undergraduates - across 110+ participating countries. GKS graduate applications close in February-March, undergraduate ones in August-September. On top of GKS, universities offer merit grants covering 30-100% of tuition.
