Ankara Medipol in brief: what to know before applying

Ankara Medipol University is a private university founded in 2018 in central Ankara, in the Altındağ district, with a strong focus on the health professions. Its official 2026/27 fee list for international students puts English-taught Medicine and Dentistry at $20,000 a year and the Turkish-taught versions at $18,500, Pharmacy at $9,500 or $9,000, and most other bachelor's programs at $4,000–5,000. Paying the whole year before the deadline in your offer letter cuts the fee by 10%.

It is a separate university, not a campus of Istanbul Medipol: the Istanbul university's rankings, hospitals and prices do not carry over. Its own hospital is so far a dental one: medical students do their clinical years in partner hospitals, and a 400-bed university hospital is being prepared to open.

Bachelor's students are admitted for the fall semester only, while graduate programs take fall and spring intakes. The 2026/27 year is under way, so the realistic bachelor's target is September 2027.

Who Ankara Medipol suits, and who should look elsewhere

Ankara Medipol is worth a closer look if you:

  • want Medicine, Dentistry or Pharmacy in English with a published 2026/27 price to plan around;
  • are interested in health degrees with an English track, such as Nursing or Physiotherapy, at $4,500–5,000 a year;
  • prefer a quieter capital to Istanbul, with both campuses in central Ankara;
  • have a sibling or spouse already enrolled, which brings a 10% family discount.

Consider another university if you:

  • need a university-owned general hospital that is already running: for now Medicine students train clinically in partner hospitals;
  • might still change plans or face a visa refusal, because the registration payment of half the annual fee is non-refundable in all cases;
  • want a wide choice of English-taught engineering; only Computer Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering are offered;
  • require institutional YÖKAK accreditation, which YÖK Atlas 2026 does not list for Ankara Medipol.

Programs and teaching language

For 2026/27 the university lists 21 bachelor's programs for international students, 14 of them with an English-taught version. Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Psychology, International Trade and Finance, Management Information Systems and Public Relations run in both languages; Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Business Administration, Gastronomy and Political Science are English-only. Law, Nutrition and Dietetics, Audiology, Midwifery, Ergotherapy, Language and Speech Therapy and Interior Architecture are Turkish-only.

According to YÖK Atlas 2026, the program catalog of Turkey's Council of Higher Education, Medicine takes six years, Dentistry and Pharmacy five, and the other degrees four. The vocational schools add 21 two-year associate (önlisans) programs, from anesthesia to radiotherapy plus programming, marketing and court services; eight have an English track.

Fees, the registration payment and discounts

Registration payment. A positive decision brings a conditional acceptance letter; to receive the official one you pay the registration fee by its deadline. The international student guide sets this at half of the annual fee, counted as the first semester's tuition and non-refundable under any circumstances, visa refusal included. The annual fee can be split into at most two installments, and two-year associate programs cannot be paid in installments.

Discounts the university publishes:

  • 10% for paying the whole year before the deadline in the offer letter;
  • 10% for each family member when siblings or spouses study at the university, with a family certificate from the embassy as proof;
  • 5% for graduates of partner international high schools;
  • during studies, 100% the next year for the top student in a class, 50% for the second and 25% for the third, plus athlete discounts.

Under the university's rules, discount rates granted at enrolment remain until graduation. The guide also mentions a discount for Medicine and Dentistry based on interview results, without publishing its size. Your offer letter fixes the final amount and payment schedule.

Payment is by US-dollar bank transfer, through the online payment link in the offer email, or by card on campus. Tuition excludes housing, meals, insurance, preparatory course materials and the residence permit.

How to apply: requirements, documents and steps

For 2026/27, anyone who completed high school outside Türkiye counts as an international applicant, whatever their citizenship; time spent at a Turkish high school, even temporarily, rules this route out. Applications are free and YÖS is not required. The academic requirement is a diploma average equivalent to 50 out of 100, or one of these: YÖS 60, TR-YÖS 300, SAT 1000, ACT 20, Abitur 4, an IB diploma, three A-level subjects, or a national centralized entrance exam at 50 out of 100 or above.

  1. Online application on the university portal. Only one application per term is accepted, so the order of your program choices matters. Upload the diploma, transcript, passport and any language certificate.
  2. Decision within a week (the guide says usually two to three days). Admissions may ask for extra documents by email.
  3. Conditional letter and registration payment. Once paid, you receive the official acceptance letter with the enrolment guide and dates.
  4. Visa. The university advises applying for the student visa and buying tickets only after paying and receiving the official letter; the Turkish consulate decides the visa.
  5. Registration with the original diploma and transcripts, two photos, a valid visa or residence permit and a passport copy; every document not in Turkish needs a notarized Turkish translation.

English and Turkish: certificates and the preparatory year

No certificate is needed to apply for an English-taught program, but without one you start in the preparatory school. Exemption requires TOEFL iBT 84 (Home Edition not accepted), PTE Academic 71, or Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency at grade B; the international student guide also accepts IELTS 6.5, a threshold it says may change. The university's own proficiency exam is held once at the start of the academic year, only for enrolled students, and a score of 70 exempts you. Applicants who studied at least three years of high school in an English-speaking country are exempt.

Preparation lasts one or two semesters; Medicine and Dentistry students must complete a full year. The School of Foreign Languages announces exams and schedules only on its website and does not email students individually.

Turkish-taught programs accept a C1 TÖMER certificate from another university or a B2 TYS certificate from the Yunus Emre Institute; without one you take the exemption exam after registration.

Campuses and housing

The university has two campuses, Main (Merkez) and Anafartalar, both in central Ankara in the Altındağ district, and says both are easy to reach by public transport. The International Office is on the first floor of the Anafartalar campus.

Dormitory. The Main campus has two guest houses, one for women and one for men, run by the TEBA foundation (Türkiye Eğitim, Sağlık, Bilim ve Araştırma Vakfı). They are apartments for three to seven people with a kitchen, bathroom and Wi-Fi, with single, double and triple rooms and VIP rooms in the men's house. No meals are provided: students eat lunch in campus dining halls and cook breakfast and dinner themselves. Only fully registered students can apply, separately through the International Office, which emails availability and prices; the dormitory operator confirms the place and price.

Private dormitories and rented flats are the alternatives; the student cost-of-living guide helps with the monthly budget.

After arrival: residence permit and equivalency

You apply for the residence permit through e-İkamet as a first-time applicant, with the form, passport, a student certificate issued for the migration office, proof of address and health insurance. Insurance can be private or through the state SGK scheme, which you must join within three months of registration. The Turkish migration authority decides the permit.

After registration and once you hold the residence permit, you apply for the high-school equivalency certificate through e-Denklik, uploading your diploma, transcript, passport and residence details. The university's deadline for submitting it changes every year, so start straight away. Our guide to admission requirements in Turkey covers the document route.

Clinical training, accreditation and recognition

According to the Faculty of Medicine's 2026–2030 strategic plan, students build clinical skills in years 4 and 5 at training and research hospitals under agreement with the university, including Ankara Training and Research Hospital (Ankara Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi) and the private Ortadoğu Hospital, and do the internship year at Gazi University's Faculty of Medicine hospital. The same plan says the university is preparing to open its own 400-bed hospital; the guide for international students still names only the dental hospital and on-campus health rooms as the university's own clinical facilities. Future medical students should get a written answer on which hospitals their cohort will use before paying.

The university operates within the YÖK system; YÖK Atlas 2026 shows no institutional YÖKAK accreditation for it, and among its programs only Psychology carries an accreditation, from the Turkish Psychological Association (TPD). Recognition and the right to practice outside Turkey are decided by the competent authority in the country where you plan to work; for doctors, dentists and pharmacists that is a separate process with its own exams.

Common mistakes Ankara Medipol applicants make

  • Confusing it with Istanbul Medipol. The Istanbul university has its own hospitals, rankings and prices.
  • Paying before your visa and plans are settled. Half the annual fee is not refunded, even after a visa refusal.
  • Booking flights before the official acceptance letter. The university itself advises waiting for it.
  • Comparing prices without the upfront-payment discount. It is worth 10%, but only if you pay before the offer-letter deadline.
  • Applying to several programs. One application per term is accepted, so rank your choices carefully.
  • Sitting TOEFL Home Edition. It does not count for exemption from preparation.
