Careers after Interior Design

Roles graduates commonly move into are listed below. Some countries restrict the title "interior architect" to registered professionals, so check the rules where you plan to work.

Assistants in interior design or architecture offices produce drawings for real projects.

Technical staff at fit-out contractors prepare working drawings and follow the work on site.

Designers at furniture and storage-system manufacturers develop products and layouts.

Retail, hotel and exhibition designers work for chains, developers and event companies.

Independent projects for flats and offices usually come after two or three years of supervised work.

Should you choose Interior Design?

Student life

What happens outside lectures depends on the university, so ask the department what it actually runs: studio juries, exhibitions, site and showroom visits, and design competitions.

Turkish architecture and design curricula usually include compulsory internships (staj) in an office or on a construction site: ask how many working days are required, whether the university helps find a placement and whether a placement in your home country counts. For a semester abroad, ask which Erasmus+ partner universities the department has and whether international degree students can apply; a visa for the host country is a separate step.
