The University of Economics in Bratislava (Ekonomická univerzita v Bratislave, EUBA), which now presents itself in English as the Bratislava University of Economics and Business, has been Slovakia's leading economics university since 1940. It has seven faculties, six in Bratislava and one in Košice. The key point for international applicants: in 2026/27 English-taught study at EUBA is tuition-free within the standard length, just like study in Slovak. You pay only a $103 (€90) application fee. The 2027/28 English intake is already scheduled: the online bachelor's exam is on 23 March 2027, and master's selection runs from 1 March to 25 July 2027, depending on the faculty.

EUBA suits applicants who want economics, finance, management, marketing or diplomacy without paying several thousand euros a year for an English programme. For engineering and IT, look at STU; for law, medicine or sciences, Comenius University or Pavol Jozef Šafárik University.

Bachelor's programmes usually take three years and master's two. The admissions portal admission.euba.sk also lists a master's in International Business Management. EUBA runs joint and double programmes with foreign partners; in 2026, for instance, it announced a double degree with the University of Bamberg.
How to apply
After secondary school
You need a completed secondary education recognised in Slovakia by enrolment. A Russian certificate of general secondary education qualifies and follows the simplified recognition route.
English-taught bachelor's
- Choose a programme on admission.euba.sk and click Apply Now on its page.
- Complete the online application in AIS2; for 2027/28 the form opens after 1 January 2027. One application may include up to three programmes of the same faculty, and you may submit only one application per faculty.
- Pay the $103 (€90) fee by bank transfer and email the proof with a PDF of your application. Unpaid applications are deleted.
- Take the online exam: a general aptitude test and an English test, scheduled for 23 March 2027. Sample tests are published online.
- Receive the decision by post at the address in your application.
English-taught master's
There is no written exam, though the faculty may hold an online interview. For 2027/28 selection runs from 1 March to 25 July 2027, with dates set by each faculty. You need a bachelor's degree and its recognition for further study, which EUBA carries out itself (see below).
Slovak-taught programmes
The same online application applies; the fee is $46 (€40), or $68 (€60) for the Economics and Law programme. You will need Slovak, and EUBA publishes a Slovak level test used for admission interviews.
A plan for 2027/28
- October–December 2026. Choose a programme, order an apostille on your certificate and start recognition.
- January–March 2027. Apply after 1 January, pay the fee and practise with the sample tests.
- 23 March 2027. Online bachelor's exam.
- April–July 2027. Decision, dormitory application, residence documents.
- August–September 2027. First dormitory payment, arrival, enrolment.

Language requirements
For English-taught bachelor's the online English test checks your level; for master's the documents and a possible interview do. Slovak-taught programmes need Slovak good enough for study. If you lack it, EUBA runs its own preparatory course: in 2026/27, 610 teaching hours of language and subject preparation aimed at level B2.1, for $3,982 (€3,490), plus $57 (€50) for the exam and certificate. Documents and recognition
- Bachelor's. Your school certificate is recognised by the Regional Office of School Administration (RÚŠS) for your place of residence or the university's location. You may apply to EUBA before recognition, but the decision must be presented at enrolment.
- Master's. EUBA's Pedagogical Department recognises your bachelor's degree. You submit certified copies of the diploma, transcript and diploma supplement with Slovak translations, a copy of your previous education document and the fee: $8 (€7) where a bilateral agreement applies, $46 (€40) otherwise, paid with eKolok e-stamps. Documents are not returned.
- Translations must come from sworn translators on the Slovak Ministry of Justice register.

Tuition
Under internal regulation B/5/2025, English-programme students pay no tuition in 2026/27. Fees apply only if you exceed the standard length:

Part-time and parallel study are charged even in Slovak. The 2027/28 terms will be set by a new fee regulation; until it appears, allow for the possibility that the free status changes.

Scholarships
- Government scholarship for talented international students: $5,706 (€5,000) a year, for three years of a bachelor's or two years of a master's. It is run by the Slovak Ministry of Education, not EUBA. You need a programme on the ministry's list and an SAT score of 1100+ or equivalent SCIO results; Russian and Kazakh citizens may apply. - Merit scholarship: for the best students after the first year; no application needed, the faculty contacts you.
- Visegrad Scholarship: $2,853 (€2,500) per semester for master's students from Eastern Partnership and Western Balkan countries such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. Russian and Kazakh citizens are not eligible.
- Penta Scholarship for Ukrainian citizens: 10–15 master's places at the Faculty of Economics and Finance, covering tuition plus $342 (€300) a month.
External scholarships are administered and decided by their providers, not EUBA.

Most accommodation is in cells of two rooms sharing a bathroom and kitchen. Places are allocated under EUBA's published principles and paid monthly in advance; in 2026 the September payment was due by 11 August, or the place lapsed. Preparatory-course participants pay $103–143 (€90–125) a month.
Strengths and weaknesses for applicants from Russia and the CIS
Strengths. A free English-taught degree with no year spent on Slovak. The online bachelor's exam and the absence of a written master's exam remove the need to travel. Russian certificates follow simplified recognition, and the Applied Languages faculty even offers an English-plus-Russian combination.
Weaknesses and risks. The Visegrad Scholarship is not open to Russian or Kazakh citizens. Fees and rent are payable only by euro bank transfer; from Russia use only lawful routes, see our guide on paying for studies abroad from Russia. Free English tuition is confirmed for 2026/27 and must be rechecked for 2027/28.
Residence rules. You need temporary residence for the purpose of study, applied for at the Slovak embassy accredited to your country of citizenship or residence; the embassy in Moscow accepts applications from Russian citizens. You submit confirmation of admission and a criminal record certificate; university students need not prove accommodation. Since 15 July 2026 decisions may take up to 90 days. After arrival: register within three working days, take out insurance within three working days of receiving the card and submit a medical report within 30 days. Mistakes to avoid
- Not paying the fee. Applications without proof of payment are deleted.
- Several applications to one faculty. Only one is allowed, covering up to three programmes.
- Late recognition of a bachelor's degree. You cannot enrol in a master's without EUBA's decision, and documents must be originals.
- Translations made abroad. EUBA accepts only sworn translators from the Slovak register.
- Missing the first dormitory payment. The place lapses if the money arrives late.
Where teaching takes place
The main campus is in Bratislava's Petržalka district, next to the Dolnozemská dormitory. The Faculty of Business Economics is in Košice, with some programmes in Michalovce in eastern Slovakia. Check your faculty's address before choosing housing.
International links
EUBA lists memberships in international networks and associations including AACSB, EFMD, the European University Association and the Magna Charta Universitatum. These are memberships, not programme accreditations. For students, double degrees and exchanges matter more: EUBA has launched a double degree with the University of Bamberg and has run its International Business Consulting programme for 13 years.
Work during and after study
University students with residence for study may work up to 80 hours a month without a separate permit. Bratislava is home to finance, audit and shared-service companies, where English and Slovak improve your chances of part-time work and internships. After graduation you can extend residence for nine months to look for work or start a business.
