Where the grants are
There are more grant routes for Kazakhstani students than commonly believed. Italy offers the income-based DSU scholarship. Turkey — the state Türkiye Bursları plus generous private-university discounts. China allocated 73 intergovernmental grants to Kazakhstan for 2026–2027 with a stipend of about $375 (¥2,500) per month — apply via egov.kz or directly to the university. Hungary collects Stipendium Hungaricum applications until mid-January. Plus Korea’s GKS — Kazakhstan is on the list of participating countries.
Documents and apostille
Start with your school certificate and transcript, then check the university’s requirements for your exact qualification. Depending on the programme, you may need language evidence, an entrance-test result or preparation before degree entry. Do not assume ENT/UNT is irrelevant: some overseas institutions include it in their document requirements. Confirm the required certification and translation, and use the current egov.kz procedure if an apostille is needed.

Ask the receiving institution which translation, certification and qualification-recognition documents it requires. If an apostille is needed for a Kazakhstani document, check the applicable egov.kz service, submission method and processing time before departure. For Turkey, check the school-equivalency procedure separately. An apostille alone does not confirm admission eligibility.

Visa or residence permit: how it works by country
Check the destination’s official entry and residence instructions for your citizenship, programme and current place of residence. For Turkey, confirm the study-purpose entry route and student-residence procedure separately. For Korea, China, Hungary or another destination, use the responsible consulate’s current category, document list and timeline. Admission and proof of funds support an application but do not determine the authority’s decision; leave time for additional checks.
Dorm or rent
Take the dormitory in year one: faster adaptation, predictable budget, simpler contract - and apply for the room together with your deposit, because lists close by August. Benchmarks: Istanbul room from $200-350, Seoul goshiwon from $250-400, Budapest room $285–455 (€250–400), deposits of one-two months on private rentals. Moving to a flat makes sense from the second year, once you know the districts and have flatmates you trust.
