About the university
Piri Reis University is named after the famous Ottoman navigator and cartographer Piri Reis, who lived between the 15th and 16th centuries. It is the only university in Turkey specializing in marine science, engineering and related disciplines, continuing Piri Reis' legacy of seafaring and navigation. In addition to maritime disciplines, the university offers education in five faculties, a professional school and a postgraduate institute.
The university has a state-of-the-art maritime simulation center where operations can be performed on more than 50 types of vessels in 80 geographical regions, as well as on four different types of machinery. In addition, the university has the PRÜ Teknopark, which serves as a center for innovation and collaboration between academia and industry. The technopark promotes technology transfer, supports start-ups and develops research projects that meet the needs of the maritime and engineering sectors.
