Middlesex University Dubai: Foundation, Bachelor's Degrees and Fees

📍 the UAE

Middlesex University Dubai is the first overseas campus of London's Middlesex University: students take British programmes in Dubai and graduate with a Middlesex UK degree. The campus has operated in the UAE for about 20 years and has more than 7,100 students. Applicants from Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and other CIS national curricula start with the one-year International Foundation Programme (IFP) at $13,700 (AED 50,301) and then move to a three-year bachelor's at $17,580 (AED 64,557) a year. Since January 2025 the campus has held a federal licence from the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in addition to its Dubai KHDA licence, and all its programmes are ministry-accredited.

Who Middlesex Dubai suits

The campus suits students who want a UK degree but prefer to live in Dubai rather than London, whether for cost, climate or visa reasons. It offers a broad range of applied programmes: business management with many specialisations, accounting and finance, law, psychology, media, design, cybersecurity, data science and education. Admission is flexible: there are no entrance exams, and the foundation year teaches academic writing and independent study in English.

The trade-offs are a four-year route for students from 11-year school systems and no part-time work on a student visa. If you want research-led engineering or US accreditation, compare Khalifa University and American University of Sharjah, which both admit applicants with a strong Russian school certificate directly to year one. Other US-model and British options are in universities in the UAE; for life in the city see study in Dubai, and for all profiles, study in the UAE. The London campus has a separate course range and price list, so do not mix the two when comparing.

Accreditation: KHDA and MoHESR

Like other Dubai free-zone campuses, Middlesex Dubai has long operated under a licence from Dubai's Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). That licence is renewed annually, and programmes are reviewed by the University Quality Assurance International Board. On 9 January 2025 the Commission for Academic Accreditation of the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research granted the campus an institutional licence, and all its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes now carry federal accreditation. For graduates this means recognition across the UAE rather than in Dubai only, which matters for UAE employment or further study in the country.

The degree itself is awarded by Middlesex University in the UK, so at home it is treated as a British qualification. Check your own country's recognition procedure early if you will need it.

Admission route from an 11-year school certificate

Step 1: International Foundation Programme

Middlesex Dubai's entry table places the national curricula of Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in one row: applicants are admitted to the IFP. It is a full 120-credit academic year in English that develops academic writing and study skills and introduces your chosen subject area. Pathways include business, law and politics, psychology, media and film, art and design, and computer science, technology and engineering.

IFP entry needs IELTS 5.5 (5.0 in each component), TOEFL iBT 65 or PTE Academic 51. Offer holders can also sit Middlesex Dubai's own English test, which is valid only for programmes at this campus.

Step 2: the bachelor's degree

After the IFP, students progress to year one of a three-year UK honours degree. Bachelor's English requirements are IELTS 6.0 (5.5 in each component), TOEFL iBT 72 or PTE Academic 51. Other qualifications such as the IB, A levels or a year of university study are assessed under separate entry rules, so ask admissions before choosing your route.

Undergraduate options include business management (finance, marketing, project management, supply chain and logistics, innovation and entrepreneurship and other pathways), accounting and finance, law, psychology, media and journalism, design, information technology, cybersecurity, data science, computer engineering and education. Bachelor's intakes are January and September.

Application documents

  • a copy of your passport;
  • secondary and high school mark sheets;
  • one academic recommendation letter on school letterhead (any school staff member or an employer can write it);
  • a personal statement of at least 200 words on your aims and reasons for the programme;
  • an IELTS, PTE or TOEFL result, if available.

Postgraduate applicants add official transcripts and a bachelor's certificate with translations (minimum second-class honours or equivalent) and a CV covering all work experience, including internships and volunteering.

Tuition for 2026/27

Middlesex Dubai publishes fees by year of entry. The rates below apply to students starting in September 2026. For continuing students, the tuition rate net of taxes stays fixed for the normal programme duration as long as all modules are passed.

Programme Fee
IFP, full year $13,700 (AED 50,301)
Bachelor's, per year $17,580 (AED 64,557)
Bachelor's, three years $52,740 (AED 193,671)
Master's in cybersecurity, data science and AI, robotics, engineering management, international relations, law (LLM Law) and similar $20,830 (AED 76,491) per programme
MSc in fintech, legal technology, sports performance analysis $21,670 (AED 79,567)
MSc in digital marketing, strategic marketing, marketing communications and brand management $24,010 (AED 88,161)
MSc in applied psychology, clinical health psychology $25,620 (AED 94,101)
LLM Advanced Legal Practice (SQE pathway) $26,780 (AED 98,345)
Daytime MBA $23,110 (AED 84,872)
Executive MBA $32,010 (AED 117,548)

Fees exclude textbooks, laptops, art materials, printing beyond the free allowance and professional body memberships. A resit costs $140 (AED 500) plus VAT, and retaking a module is charged by credits. IFP plus a bachelor's comes to about $66,430 (AED 243,972) in tuition alone.

Housing

Middlesex Dubai houses students in partner residences, and a free shuttle runs from its official partner, The Myriad, to both campuses. Starting prices for new students in September 2026 on a 10–12-month contract:

Residence From Deposit Distance to campuses
ESAW Accommodation $600 (AED 2,200) a month for a bed in a triple room $820 (AED 3,000) if paying monthly 17 km to Knowledge Park, 27 km to Academic City
KSK Homes $830 (AED 3,050) a month for a bed in a twin room $820 (AED 3,000) 38 km to Knowledge Park, 5 km to Academic City
The Myriad $830 (AED 3,050) a month for a bed in a double room $950 (AED 3,500) 38 km to Knowledge Park, 4.5 km to Academic City
Yugo Dubailand $950 (AED 3,500) a month for a bed in a twin en-suite $680 (AED 2,500) 34 km to Knowledge Park, 12 km to Academic City

The Myriad and KSK Homes suit students based at Academic City, while ESAW is closer to Knowledge Park. For the September 2026 intake Yugo was fully booked, and The Myriad's female accommodation and twin rooms were full, so places went through waiting lists. KSK Homes adds $410 (AED 1,500) a month for residents under 18.

A first year combining the IFP, a shared room at The Myriad or KSK Homes at $830 (AED 3,050) a month and the visa costs at least about $25,180 before food, transport and flights. Students paying from Russia can find legal routes in how to pay for studies abroad from Russia; country-wide prices are in cost of studying in the UAE.

Scholarships and grants

The 10–50% Academic Excellence Scholarship is limited to applicants studying in the UAE. International applicants at every level can redeem an International Study Grant, set case by case by admissions. The campus's Russia page mentions study grants for students from Russia, early enrolment grants and payment plans without publishing amounts. A Sporting Excellence Scholarship is open to IFP and bachelor's applicants with national- or international-level sporting achievements. All awards are at the university's discretion.

Student visa

Middlesex Dubai sponsors student visas; charges are set by the Dubai Development Authority.

  1. Accept the offer, clear any conditions and pay 25% of the annual tuition.
  2. Submit the visa form, a digital photo on a white background, a passport copy (valid for at least one year) and the unconditional offer at least four weeks before the start. Applicants under 18 need a parental no-objection certificate attested by the UAE embassy and their foreign ministry.
  3. Pay a $680 (AED 2,500) refundable deposit and the processing fee: $1,510 (AED 5,555.22) when applying from outside the UAE or $1,970 (AED 7,235.22) from inside. It covers processing, the medical test, medical insurance and the Emirates ID.
  4. Receive the entry permit in about 15–20 working days (longer if security checks take time); it is valid for two months.
  5. After arrival, complete the chest X-ray and blood test at the Knowledge Village medical centre and wait another 15–20 days for the visa.

The visa is issued for 12 months, so a bachelor's student renews it two or three times, applying a month before expiry and staying in the UAE during renewal. Russian citizens can enter visa-free, but the university advises against starting studies on a visit visa because changing status costs more. Six consecutive months outside the UAE voids the visa.

Middlesex Dubai does not allow part-time work on a student visa; internships may be possible under UAE rules and university policy through the careers office. Students cannot sponsor family members. For how student residence works across the country, read UAE student visa.

Planning timeline

  1. 9–12 months ahead: choose the IFP pathway and target degree, book IELTS or PTE.
  2. 6 months ahead: apply with grades, a recommendation and the personal statement; take the in-house English test after the offer if needed.
  3. 3 months ahead: meet offer conditions, pay 25% of tuition, reserve partner housing.
  4. 1–2 months ahead: submit the visa application at least four weeks before the start and buy flights only after the entry permit.
  5. On arrival: medical test, Emirates ID, module registration.

Common mistakes

  • Expecting direct year-one entry. For CIS national curricula, the published route is the IFP.
  • Mixing London and Dubai prices. They are different campuses with different programmes and fees.
  • Using last year's figures. 2025/26 rates were lower: $13,360 (AED 49,074) for the IFP and $17,150 (AED 62,982) per bachelor's year.
  • Budgeting on part-time income. The student visa does not allow it.
  • Choosing housing on price alone. Two residences near Academic City are 38 km from Knowledge Park, which means a long daily commute if your classes are there.
  • Staying abroad too long. Six months outside the UAE cancels the visa.

FAQ

Can I enter a bachelor's at Middlesex Dubai directly after an 11-year school?
