Cost of Studying in Cyprus in 2026/27: Tuition, Fees and Living Costs

A year of a bachelor's degree at a private Cypriot university costs $10,190–13,420 (€8,970–11,820) in tuition in 2026/27, and a full first year with university fees, migration fees and living in Nicosia comes to $21,720–25,970 (€19,125–22,875) with shared housing. A master's costs $10,120–17,880 (€8,910–15,750) for the whole programme and medicine $26,120–28,390 (€23,000–25,000) a year. There is no free tuition for non-EU citizens, even at public universities.

Tuition by university

University Bachelor's, per year Master's, per programme Medicine, per year

Subject-level comparisons are in our guides to bachelor's, master's and medicine in Cyprus. Private universities charge per ECTS, with the yearly figure based on 60 ECTS, and non-EU students must study full time, so you cannot save by taking fewer courses.

Fees on top of tuition

At UNIC, bachelor's and master's programmes (except medicine and veterinary medicine) carry these fees:

Fee Amount Payment
Application $68 (€60) once, non-refundable
Student visa processing $170 (€150) once, non-refundable
Registration $34 (€30) per semester
Health and accident insurance $200 (€175) per year
Student activities and technology $23 (€20) and $17 (€15) per semester, bachelor's only
International student deposit $450 (€400) once, refunded when you leave

UNIC's own example: an Accounting student pays $12,760 (€11,235) in year one instead of the $11,720 (€10,320) tuition. At EUC the application fee is $91 (€80), or $230 (€200) for medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine, and registration is $79 (€70) per semester outside the medical programmes. Frederick charges a $62 (€55) application fee, a $120 (€110) semester fee and a $230 (€200) visa processing fee for non-EU students.

Medicine costs more. UNIC's medical school adds malpractice insurance — $340 (€300) a year in early years and $680–1,420 (€600–1,250) in clinical years — a $1,700 (€1,500) administrative fee and a $3,970 (€3,500) seat deposit, both credited against first-semester tuition, plus a $6,810 (€6,000) annual supplement for clinical placements in the UK or US.

Government fees and insurance

  • $79 (€70) for the entry and residence permit application, or $160 (€140) if an alien registration certificate is issued at the same time;
  • $79 (€70) for first registration in the Aliens Register;
  • $62 (€55) for each annual renewal.

Health insurance covering inpatient and outpatient care and repatriation of remains (Plan A) is compulsory; universities usually arrange it and add it to your bill. After arrival you repeat blood tests and a chest X-ray at a Cypriot hospital or clinic, which is a separate cost. See the Cyprus student visa guide for the procedure.

Living costs

UNIC's 2026/27 financial information estimates an academic year in Nicosia as follows:

Expense Per academic year
Shared accommodation $4,540–6,810 (€4,000–6,000)
Single accommodation $6,810–11,360 (€6,000–10,000)
Food and personal expenses $3,800–5,680 (€3,350–5,000)
Books and stationery $450–570 (€400–500)

For medical students, who study almost all year, the same university's medical school gives a minimum of $13,630 (€12,000) for a full year in Nicosia. Landlords usually ask for a deposit of 4–8 weeks' rent, refunded if bills are paid and the property is undamaged. Universities publish fewer figures for Limassol, Larnaca and Paphos, so do not assume Nicosia costs apply elsewhere.

Sample first-year budget

UNIC Accounting bachelor's, shared room in Nicosia:

Item Amount
Tuition and UNIC fees, including the refundable $450 (€400) deposit $12,760 (€11,235)
Migration fees (permit and first registration) $160 (€140)
Housing, food, books $8,800–13,060 (€7,750–11,500)
Total including migration fees $21,720–25,970 (€19,125–22,875)

UNIC medicine, first year: $27,250 (€24,000) tuition, about $1,290 (€1,140) in compulsory fees and insurance (including the refundable deposit), migration fees and the $13,630 (€12,000) living minimum — about $42,350 (€37,300). Flights, local medical tests, furniture and first-month costs are not included.

Whole-degree totals

Multiply by the programme length, bearing in mind that 2026/27 prices may change in later years:

  • Computer science at Frederick: $43,600 (€38,400) in tuition over four years at $10,900 (€9,600) a year.
  • Accounting at UNIC: $46,870 (€41,280) in tuition over four years at $11,720 (€10,320) a year.
  • Medicine at UNIC: six years at $27,250 (€24,000) come to $163,510 (€144,000) in tuition, plus at least $81,760 (€72,000) for living in Nicosia — about $245,270 (€216,000) over six years before clinical supplements.

Payment rules and refunds

Before the entry permit, the Ministry of Education requires an advance of at least $3,410 (€3,000), and UNIC asks for the full first semester. UNIC then allows instalments after an initial $1,700 (€1,500) registration deposit and charges 4% a year on overdue amounts. Payments are in euros by bank transfer, university payment services or in person.

Read refund rules before paying. At Frederick, semester tuition is refunded in full if you withdraw before the first day of classes, then 10% less for each week, with no refund after week nine. Application and registration fees are never refunded. If you are paying from Russia, see how to pay for studies abroad from Russia.

Proof of funds for the entry permit

The state requires proof that you can pay for tuition, living and repatriation but does not set a single amount in its document list. Universities make it concrete:

  • UNIC: a sponsor's bank statement showing at least the first year's tuition, plus a bank letter;
  • Frederick: a statement showing at least $7,950 (€7,000) in the sponsor's account and a bank letter; after arrival, at least $1,140 (€1,000) in a Cypriot bank account;
  • European University Cyprus: a bank letter and statement for at least $7,950 (€7,000), plus at least $2,270 (€2,000) in cash for personal expenses on arrival.

Several universities use the $7,950 (€7,000) threshold, so plan for at least that amount unless your university names a different one.

For the residence permit you also need a Cypriot bank's confirmation that you have transferred sufficient funds to a personal account, and a bank undertaking covering repatriation costs, provided by you or the university.

Ways to reduce costs

  • Compare the exact programme: for the same subject the gap reaches $3,100 (€2,730) a year (law costs $13,290 (€11,700) at UNIC and $10,190 (€8,970) at Frederick).
  • Check first-year grade-based scholarships (UNIC) and programme discounts (30–40% on selected UCLan Cyprus programmes in 2026/27).
  • Pass your English test before applying to avoid a paid foundation year.
  • Share accommodation: by UNIC's estimate it saves $2,270–4,540 (€2,000–4,000) a year.
  • Work within the rules, up to 20 hours a week in term.

Common budgeting mistakes

  • Comparing tuition only and ignoring fees, insurance and deposits.
  • Confusing yearly and whole-programme master's fees.
  • Applying Nicosia living costs to other cities without checking.
  • Counting a discount that is not in your financial statement.
  • Forgetting malpractice insurance and clinical placement supplements in medicine.
