The University of Ljubljana (Univerza v Ljubljani) is Slovenia's oldest and largest university, founded in 1919. Until 1975 it remained the country's only university, which shaped its special role in the national education system. Today it's a world-class research university with about 40,000 students, around 10% of them international.

The university is in Ljubljana - a green, compact capital where one in ten residents is a student. It accounts for about half of all internationally recognized research publications in Slovenia.

Many faculties and three academies of the arts are in the historic center, with modern buildings on the outskirts. International applicants are admitted on the basis of their diploma and proven language proficiency. Documents require translation and recognition.
