University of Ljubljana

The University of Ljubljana (Univerza v Ljubljani) is Slovenia's oldest and largest university, founded in 1919. Until 1975 it remained the country's only university, which shaped its special role in the national education system. Today it's a world-class research university with about 40,000 students, around 10% of them international.

The university's main building is the former Carniola mansion (1902) in central Ljubljana. Many faculties and three academies of the arts are in the historic center, with modern buildings on the outskirts. Students have access to more than 30 libraries, including the National and University Library with about 1.5 million volumes, and 33 research centers.
