Who Taylor's suits

Taylor's works well if you want a flexible start date, applied programmes and a self-contained campus. It is particularly strong in business, hospitality and tourism, design, communication and IT; the university reports that its MBA and Master of Management ranked first in Malaysia in the 2027 QS subject rankings.

It is less suitable if:

  • your budget is tight — a private university costs more than public Universiti Malaya;
  • your home country only recognises degrees from listed foreign universities — Russia's list includes UM, USM and UTM but not Taylor's;
  • you want medicine at the lowest price — Taylor's MBBS costs $125,650 (RM 512,760) over five years.

Programmes

Taylor's University offers bachelor's degrees in architecture and design, business and finance, computing, engineering, hospitality and culinary arts, law, psychology, media and communication, pharmacy and medicine. Features worth knowing:

  • Three final-year tracks in computing. In year three, students choose an internship, work-based learning with an employer or a start-up track.
  • Finishing abroad. Computing students can complete their degree at partner universities in Australia or the UK.
  • American Degree Transfer Program. Two years of US-style study at Taylor's, then transfer to a university in the US or Canada; admission after transfer is decided by the receiving university.
  • Intensive English. A three-month course with May and September intakes costs $6,260 (RM 25,531) including charges.

What the total includes

Computer Science, September 2026 intake:

Item Amount
Tuition $30,400 (RM 124,080)
Enrolment fee, non-refundable $690 (RM 2,800)
International student charge $740 (RM 3,000)
Annual fee, three times $1,840 (RM 7,500)
EMGS visa processing and eVAL $720 (RM 2,920)
First-year medical insurance $160 (RM 644)
International security deposit, refundable $740 (RM 3,000)
6% tax (not charged on insurance, deposit or visa fee) $2,020 (RM 8,243)
Total $37,290 (RM 152,187)

Line items are rounded individually, so they add up to a few dozen dollars more than the total. The first semester — $9,080 (RM 37,071) — is payable in full on enrolment, and later payments fall due before each semester, including short inter-semester terms. Three caveats:

  • Invoices are in ringgit. Taylor's quotes dollars at an indicative $1 (RM 3.80), so its dollar figures are higher than ours; any shortfall from exchange rates or bank charges is the student's responsibility.
  • Fees are reviewed every year. The amount for your intake may differ.
  • Payment is by Taylor's Pay or Flywire. If Flywire is unavailable in your country, the finance office offers an alternative on request. Students paying from Russia can read about legal options in our guide to paying for studies abroad from Russia.

Admission

After 11 years of school: the Taylor's College foundation

Foundation programmes are run by Taylor's College on the Lakeside Campus. Entry requires an SPM-level qualification with five credits, O-levels or another qualification the Malaysian government recognises as equivalent. The English bar is modest: IELTS 4.0, TOEFL iBT 31 or completion of an English-medium high school. The programme lasts one year and starts in February, April or August.

Progression depends on the degree. Computer Science accepts a foundation CGPA of 2.00; Medicine requires at least 3.00 in biology, chemistry and physics or mathematics.

Direct entry to a bachelor's

Direct entry requires a qualification above the 11-year school level. For Computer Science, Taylor's accepts, for example:

  • A-levels with at least DD;
  • the IB Diploma with at least 24 points in six subjects;
  • the Canadian Pre-University programme with a 50% average;
  • a foundation from another Malaysian-recognised institution with a CGPA of 2.00.

International applicants need IELTS 5.5 for Computer Science; other programmes list their own levels.

Master's programmes

The MBA requires a relevant bachelor's degree with a CGPA of 2.75; applicants with 2.50–2.75 need two years' work experience and an interview, and those below 2.50 five years' experience. The Master in Applied Computing requires a computing degree with a CGPA of 2.50. Taught programmes start in February, April, June, September and November.

Application steps for international students

  1. Check eligibility with the International Student Recruitment team and choose a programme.
  2. Apply at least nine weeks before your intended start.
  3. Upload documents and make the first payment via Flywire; the university then issues your Letter of Acceptance.
  4. Taylor's files your eVAL (electronic Visa Approval Letter) with EMGS; your passport must be valid for at least 18 months.
  5. Once the eVAL is issued, obtain a single-entry visa if your nationality requires one.
  6. Submit the Taylor's arrival form five days before arrival and request the free airport pick-up at least three working days ahead.

Admission is decided by Taylor's, and the visa approval by the Immigration Department of Malaysia. For details, see our Malaysia Student Pass guide.

Scholarships

Most Taylor's scholarships are partial tuition waivers for academic, creative or sporting achievement and do not cover living costs. The main catch for international applicants is eligibility: the undergraduate scholarship rules list Malaysian students and, among international students, only graduates of Taylor's Education Group schools. If you come from another school system, leave the award out of your budget until the university confirms your eligibility in writing.

Accommodation

Rent is paid six months in advance, and the first payment includes a deposit and stamp duty. Common mistakes

  • Budgeting with the university's dollar figures. The indicative $1 (RM 3.80) rate does not match market rates; plan in ringgit.
  • Forgetting short semesters. The fee schedule includes inter-semester terms that are billed separately.
  • Confusing Taylor's College with Taylor's University. The foundation is at the college; degree progression rules are set by the university.
  • Leaving housing to the last minute. Popular campus rooms fill up, and rent is due six months ahead.
  • Assuming automatic recognition at home. Check your own country's rules; in Russia, Taylor's degrees go through the standard recognition procedure.
