How admission to Florida International University (FIU) works, step by step:

1. Choose the entry route. FIU treats students who have already enrolled in a two- or four-year college or university as transfer applicants; program and credit rules differ.
2. Check tests and credentials. For first-year admission, submit an SAT, ACT or CLT score and official high-school transcripts with an official translation if the originals are not in English.
3. Submit the application. FIU may request extra evidence; transfer students with international college work need a course-by-course NACES-member evaluation.
4. Plan the F-1 process after admission. For an F-1 interview, follow the U.S. State Department's current instruction to apply in your country of nationality or residence, or at a designated post where routine services are unavailable. A particular passport does not guarantee an interview location or visa outcome. Check U.S. State Department interview-location guidance before scheduling or paying.

School duration and transfer. An 11-year certificate does not by itself guarantee direct admission; FIU reviews the actual secondary credential and test results. Its 2+2 junior-standing route is tied to a Florida public-college Associate of Arts degree and has program-specific exceptions. Other transfer credits are assessed after admission. FIU's 2026–27 on-campus undergraduate model for non-Florida residents lists $10,926 tuition plus $199 in fees per semester. Tuition across Fall and Spring is $21,852. The $45,488 total estimate for those two semesters includes housing ($5,025 per semester), food ($2,595 per semester), books, transport, personal expenses and a $25 loan-origination fee per semester.
