# Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore): Admission and Fees

NTU's own qualification table states that high school certificates from Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are not suitable for direct admission: applicants add at least three AP exams scored 4 or 5, or three UK A-level subjects. For 2027/28, applications with these documents are open from 15 October 2026 to 20 January 2027, with an SGD 25 ($20) fee. For the 2026 intake, a non-ASEAN international student paid $16,750 (SGD 21,400) a year with the MOE Tuition Grant and $28,450–31,780 (SGD 36,350–40,600) without it, and the rate stays fixed until graduation. The grant requires three years of work in Singapore after the degree.

## Who NTU suits {#section-1}

NTU fits students heading into engineering, computing, data and the sciences; its own vision is "a great global university founded on science and technology". It also has Nanyang Business School, humanities and social sciences, art and design, and medicine. The main campus lies in the west of the island, away from the business district; the medical school uses a separate campus at Novena.

Weigh other options if:

- you cannot take APs or A-levels. NTU has no direct route for an 11-year certificate; private institutions such as [Singapore Institute of Management](https://www.studyu.org/en/university-singapore-institute-of-management) admit through preparatory programmes;
- you want a flexible, seminar-based business degree. That format is closer to [SMU](https://www.studyu.org/en/university-smu);
- you want medicine without the grant. NTU offers its medical programme to international students only on a subsidised basis, with the work obligation.

## What to add to your school certificate {#section-2}

For qualifications outside its main list, NTU publishes a table of "other international qualifications" that says, country by country, whether direct admission is possible. For Russia and most CIS countries the answer is no.

The AP route. Three or more College Board AP exams scored 4 or 5. AP Calculus BC is compulsory for engineering and most science programmes; other subjects follow the programme's prerequisites. In the last cycle AP scores had to reach NTU by 15 July, and later scores were not considered.

The A-level route. At least three Advanced Level subjects (Cambridge, Edexcel, OCR or AQA) taken within 12 months in no more than two sittings, with actual results available before June of the application year. A-level Mathematics or Further Mathematics is required for engineering and most sciences.

Olympiad medallists. Gold, silver and bronze medallists of international olympiads in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, informatics, astronomy, artificial intelligence and nuclear science are considered more favourably for related programmes, sometimes after an interview.

You may apply in your final school year or after graduating. Meeting the minimum only makes you eligible: NTU warns that competition is especially stiff for non-citizens and that admission points vary by year and programme.

## English requirements {#section-3}

NTU asks for an English test from every applicant who studied English only as a second or additional language at secondary school, which covers almost every graduate of a Russian or Kazakh school. The current minimums sit in the general "English Language Requirement" section of NTU's International Qualifications page:

NTU describes these as the general thresholds for Science, Engineering and Computing; other programmes may set higher ones. Language tests must be taken within two years before the application deadline, SAT and ACT scores stay valid for five years, and late results are not considered.

The separate "other international qualifications" table, which covers Russian and Central Asian certificates, still shows older and lower figures (IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 5.0). Prepare for the stricter general thresholds so your application meets the rule under either reading.

## How to apply for 2027/28 {#section-4}

NTU admits once a year; the academic term typically begins in late July.

1. Use the right form. Apply under the first acceptable qualification you obtained; applications under the wrong category may be rejected.
2. Complete the form in one session. It cannot be saved, must be filled in English and takes 20 minutes or more. Have your passport, Grade 12 results (or first-term results if still at school), junior/secondary results, AP or A-level results and your English score ready.
3. Pay SGD 25 ($20). By Visa or Mastercard; PayNow only with a Singapore bank account. Bank transfers and Western Union are not accepted. 4. Upload documents within 3 days after the closing date. Files cannot be re-uploaded, so check each one before clicking "Confirm".
5. Pending results go in within 3 days of release and no later than 31 July. NTU makes no provisional offers on predicted grades; if results come after 31 July, apply the following year.
6. Medicine and Renaissance Engineering need final results by 1 April. Medicine also needs two referees (one your form teacher) and a criminal records declaration; Art, Design & Media requires a portfolio by the closing date.

NTU states that it does not engage third-party agents to represent the university and that all admission correspondence comes from its Office of Admissions. Consultants, including StudyU, work for the applicant; only NTU decides.

## NTU tuition fees {#section-5}

NTU fixes annual tuition at the rate of the year you accept your offer, for the normal length of the programme. The latest published rates are for students who accepted in 2026:

International fees include 9% GST; ASEAN citizens pay a lower subsidised rate. NTU publishes a separate table for offers accepted in 2027.

Living costs. NTU estimates SGD 1,130–1,960 ($880–1,530) a month: SGD 430–860 for on-campus housing, SGD 450–600 for meals, SGD 250–500 for transport, books and personal costs. ## The MOE Tuition Grant at NTU {#section-6}

The grant lets you pay the subsidised rate. It is awarded to international students competitively; anyone who does not receive it or does not complete the paperwork is billed the full rate.

NTU timeline.

1. Opt for the grant in the admission form.
2. If the grant is offered with your place, decide by the stated date whether you accept with or without it (17 July in 2026).
3. On arrival, complete ICA's off-site enrolment with biometrics on campus, by appointment. The digital Student's Pass follows in about 7 working days, and Singpass data about 5 working days later.
4. In September, register on MOE's portal with Singpass, nominate two sureties, then you and both sureties sign the agreement online (19 September – 18 October in 2026).

Sureties: two people of any nationality, aged 21 to under 65, not undischarged bankrupts and not tied to another student's outstanding grant.

The obligation. Work full-time for a Singapore entity, on a valid work pass, for three years after graduation. Changing employers is allowed; overseas work counts only with MOE's prior approval and within a Singapore company's structure. The bond starts at graduation, and your first job must be reported within three months.

Leaving early. On withdrawal, bond buy-out or failure to serve, you and your sureties jointly repay the full grant, the GST subsidy and 10% annual compound interest. The gap between full and subsidised rates is SGD 14,950 ($11,700) per year on non-lab programmes and SGD 19,200 ($15,030) on lab-based ones — a guide to the subsidy you would repay with interest. Deferral. Postgraduate study straight after the degree needs MOE approval at least 8 weeks before it starts; national service at home is also handled as a deferment before enlistment.

## Nanyang Global Scholarship {#section-7}

NTU's flagship award is open to all nationalities. You apply in the same window as for admission, using your application number.

- Benefits: full subsidised tuition after the grant, SGD 6,500 ($5,090) a year living allowance, up to SGD 2,000 ($1,570) a year for hostel stay, a one-off SGD 2,000 computer allowance, and a travel grant of up to SGD 8,000 ($6,260) for an overseas programme.
- Extra: enrolment in NTU Honours College.
- Obligations: no separate bond, but the three-year MOE grant bond applies.
- Selection: outstanding results in A-levels, IB or a Year 12 equivalent and strong co-curricular records. Candidates with international qualifications are interviewed within two months of the programme offer.

NTU's scholarship committee decides; no one can promise an award in advance.

## Housing {#section-8}

Eligible undergraduates who apply in the designated window receive a hall place for their first two years. Money matters:

- a non-refundable hall application fee of SGD 27.25;
- a hall acceptance fee equal to two months' rent, offset against the first two months;
- a hall council fee of SGD 10.90 per admission;
- payment only through Flywire (card, bank transfer or PayNow), with automatic currency conversion.

If you arrive before check-in, NTU advises arranging temporary accommodation.

## Student's Pass, work and staying on {#section-9}

Entry. Russian and Kazakh citizens need a visa for Singapore, but students do not apply separately: the entry visa is included in the In-Principle Approval letter for the Student's Pass.

Student's Pass. Apply online to ICA two to three months before the course: SGD 45 ($35) processing and SGD 60 ($47) issuance. Part-time work. Up to 16 hours a week in term and unrestricted in vacations without a work pass; internships that count toward graduation are exempt from the cap.

After graduation. You can apply for a one-year Long-Term Visit Pass to look for work. An Employment Pass requires at least SGD 5,600 ($4,380) a month — SGD 6,000 ($4,700) for new applications from 1 January 2027 — and 40 COMPASS points. In the 2025 joint graduate employment survey of the autonomous universities, nine in ten NTU graduates found work within six months of their final exams, with a median gross monthly salary of SGD 4,550 ($3,560) in full-time permanent jobs. NTU does not publish separate figures for international graduates.

## Postgraduate study {#section-10}

## Common mistakes {#section-11}

- Applying with a certificate but no AP or A-levels. NTU's table closes direct entry for Russia and Central Asia.
- Spreading A-levels over three or more sittings. NTU accepts subjects taken within 12 months in no more than two sittings.
- Choosing engineering without Calculus BC or A-level Maths. It is compulsory for most technical and science programmes.
- Waiting for results after 31 July. The application moves to the next year.
- Missing the grant signing window. Without a signature you pay the full rate.
- Underestimating the bond. Leaving right after graduation means repaying the grant with interest.

## FAQ {#section-12}

### Can I apply to NTU with a Russian school certificate?

Only with an additional qualification: three or more AP exams at 4–5, or three A-level subjects. Without them, direct admission is closed.

### When is the NTU deadline for 2027 entry?

For "other international qualifications", which covers Russian and Central Asian certificates: 15 October 2026 to 20 January 2027. The separate A-level and IB forms stay open until 19 March 2027, but NTU asks you to apply under the first qualification you obtained, so a Russian school leaver adding APs or A-levels should plan for the January deadline.

### How much does NTU cost an international student?

For the 2026 intake, $16,750 (SGD 21,400) a year with the MOE grant and $28,450–31,780 (SGD 36,350–40,600) without it; business and accountancy without the grant cost $35,690 (SGD 45,600). The rate is fixed for the whole degree.

### Do I have to take the MOE grant?

No — you can pay the full rate and leave freely after graduation. The Nanyang Global Scholarship, by contrast, comes with the grant and its bond.

### Can I count on a place in a hall?

Yes, for the first two years, provided you apply in the designated period and are eligible.

### Does NTU accept the NIS Grade 12 Certificate from Kazakhstan?

Yes — it allows direct admission with A grades in all exam subjects. A standard Kazakh certificate needs AP or A-levels.
