# Flinders University: Admission, 2027 Fees and Student Visa for International Applicants

Flinders University is a public university in Adelaide, South Australia, with its main campus at Bedford Park, a technology precinct at Tonsley and a campus in the city centre. It ranks joint 374th in the QS World University Rankings 2027. For school leavers with a Russian certificate, Flinders offers a foundation year at its own Flinders University Academy: 8 or 12 months for $21,200 (A$30,500), after which students enter the first year of their chosen degree. The 2027 fee schedule is already published: business costs $28,430 (A$40,900) a year, IT $31,760 (A$45,700) and engineering $34,470 (A$49,600), and these amounts include the student services fee (SSAF).

Flinders is not Adelaide University. Adelaide University opened in 2026 in place of two former state universities, the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia, and it has [its own profile](https://www.studyu.org/en/university-adelaide); Flinders is not part of that merger and admits students under its own rules. Other Australian options are on our [study in Australia](https://www.studyu.org/en/country-australia) page.

## Who Flinders suits {#section-1}

| Pros | Cons |
| --- | --- |
| An in-house pathway college taught by university staff | The Russian certificate is not in the direct-entry equivalency table |
| Annual fees include the SSAF, so there are fewer hidden charges | Discounts do not apply to medicine or graduate-entry nursing |
| Adelaide is a Category 2 regional area, so an extra 485 year is possible | Adelaide is smaller than Sydney or Melbourne, with a narrower job market for students and graduates |
| A broad range of programs: medicine, nursing, psychology, engineering, IT | Fees rise in every year of study |
| On-campus housing with or without meals, with 2027 rates published | Citizens of Kazakhstan and other listed CIS countries cannot apply on their own |

Flinders suits applicants who want a large public university in a calm, affordable city with a route to extending the graduate visa. If you are choosing between Adelaide and other cities, see our overview of [universities in Australia](https://www.studyu.org/en/blog-universities-in-australia) and the profile of [the University of Western Australia](https://www.studyu.org/en/university-western-australia) in Perth, another Category 2 region.

## How to apply {#section-2}

You can apply online yourself or through an agent. For citizens of some countries applying from outside Australia, an agent is compulsory: Flinders' list includes Kazakhstan, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Moldova. Russia is not on the list as at 1 October 2026, so Russian citizens can apply directly. Flinders publishes its agents by country, so citizens of listed countries should check that their adviser appears on that list: an application through an unlisted intermediary will not be accepted. The university, not the agent, makes the admission decision.

All academic documents must be submitted as certified copies with English translations. Flinders lists who may certify documents outside Australia, so check that list before you send anything.

## Entry after Year 11: Flinders University Academy {#section-3}

Flinders University Academy is the university's own pathway unit. Its programs run at Bedford Park, Tonsley and the city campus and are taught by Flinders staff. After completing a program successfully, students move on to their chosen degree without a second selection round.

| Program | Length and start | Entry | English | Fee |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| International Foundation Studies | 12 months from February; 8 months from June or October | completed equivalent of Australian Year 11, age 17 or over | IELTS 5.5, no band below 5.0 | $21,200 (A$30,500), the same for both lengths; the page does not state the fee year |
| Diploma (Business, Creative Industries, Engineering, Health, IT) | 12 or 8 months, same intakes | Year 12 equivalent with ATAR 40 or higher | IELTS 5.5 | 2026: $24,330 (A$35,000) a year |
| Pre-Masters (Business, IT, Health) | by program | by program | by program | on the Academy website |

The foundation year has eight topics: English, numeracy, study skills and subjects linked to your future field. After foundation you start the first year, while a diploma replaces the first year: the Diploma of Business, for example, lets you finish a business degree in three years including the diploma. The Bachelor of Nursing still requires an IELTS result before you start.

All foundation, diploma and pre-master's students receive a 20% scholarship at the Academy. After foundation you can qualify for 20%, 25% or 30% off your whole degree, depending on your final percentage. Our guide to [studying in Australia after Year 11](https://www.studyu.org/en/blog-australia-after-11-years-of-school) compares foundation with a year at a university at home.

Direct entry. Flinders accepts international school qualifications at an ATAR 60 equivalent (higher for some programs), but the Russian certificate is not in its published equivalency table. Direct entry is therefore decided case by case, and with an 11-year certificate the foundation route is the safer plan.

## Bachelor's fees for 2027 {#section-4}

Flinders publishes a single fee schedule for international students commencing in 2027 (updated August 2026). The amounts are annual and include the Student Services and Amenities Fee; fees increase in later years.

| Program | Year, 2027 |
| --- | --- |
| Bachelor of Business, Commerce, Accounting, Business Analytics | $28,430 (A$40,900) |
| Bachelor of Psychological Science | $28,500 (A$41,000) |
| Bachelor of Laws | $30,790 (A$44,300) |
| Bachelor of Science | $31,690 (A$45,600) |
| Bachelor of Information Technology, Computer Science | $31,760 (A$45,700) |
| Bachelor of Nursing (Preregistration) | $32,320 (A$46,500) |
| Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), all specialisations in the schedule | $34,470 (A$49,600) |
| Bachelor of Clinical Sciences / Doctor of Medicine (undergraduate stage) | $38,160 (A$54,900) |

The base level for bachelor's study is IELTS Academic 6.0 with at least 6.0 in speaking and writing. Psychology needs 6.5 (6.0 in each band), law 7.0 (6.5 in each), nursing 7.0 (6.5 in writing), and education, paramedicine and social work 7.0 in every band. See the [cost of studying in Australia](https://www.studyu.org/en/blog-cost-of-studying-in-australia) for a full-year budget with housing and insurance.

## Master's degrees {#section-5}

| Program | Year, 2027 |
| --- | --- |
| Master of Teaching | $27,800 (A$40,000) |
| Master of International Relations | $28,980 (A$41,700) |
| Master of Public Health | $30,170 (A$43,400) |
| Master of Computer Science, Master of Data Science | $31,280 (A$45,000) |
| Master of Accounting | $32,180 (A$46,300) |
| Master of Business Administration (specialisations) | $32,250 (A$46,400) |
| Master of Biotechnology | $33,570 (A$48,300) |
| Master of Engineering | $34,820 (A$50,100) |
| Doctor of Medicine | $66,520 (A$95,700) |

The MBA Future Business is a separate one-year program costing $48,380 (A$69,600). The short format is convenient, but the 485 visa needs 92 weeks of study as registered on CRICOS, which a one-year program does not provide. A master's requires a bachelor's degree recognised by Flinders, and Russian degrees are assessed individually. The base English level is IELTS 6.0 (6.0 in speaking and writing), 6.5 for business administration, accounting and public health, and 7.0 in every band for teaching. Home Affairs decides on the 485 visa. Our [master's in Australia](https://www.studyu.org/en/blog-masters-in-australia) guide has more.

## Flinders scholarships {#section-6}

| Scholarship | Value | Condition |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Vice-Chancellor Excellence Scholarship | 50% for the whole course | ATAR 95 or GPA 6.5 out of 7 equivalent; competitive, with a video from shortlisted applicants; the Semester 1 2027 deadline is still to be confirmed |
| Global Excellence Scholarship | 30% for the whole course | ATAR 80+, a foundation result of 80%+ or GPA 6.0+ |
| Global Scholarship | 25% for the whole course | ATAR 70–79.95 and 5 points above the course minimum, a foundation result of 70–79% or GPA 5.5+ |
| Kickstart Scholarship | 20% for the whole course | new international coursework students of any nationality |

Global and Global Excellence awards exclude the Bachelor of Clinical Sciences/Doctor of Medicine, the Doctor of Medicine, the Bachelor of Nursing (Graduate Entry), the Master of Psychology (Clinical), the Master of Physiotherapy, graduate certificates and diplomas and research degrees; Kickstart has a similar list that also excludes the Master of Professional Psychology. The standard Bachelor of Nursing (Preregistration) for school leavers is not excluded. Flinders sets the equivalent of your certificate or degree for scholarship purposes and makes the decision. For other funding, see [scholarships in Australia](https://www.studyu.org/en/blog-scholarships-in-australia).

## On-campus housing in 2027 {#section-7}

| Residence | Per week, 2027 | Meals | Advance fee |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Deirdre Jordan Village | $210 (A$307) | no | $570 (A$820) |
| University Hall | $340 (A$487), single room | 15 meals a week, Monday to Friday | $600 (A$865) |

The 2027 contract covers four quarters from 20 February to 27 November, payable by quarter or by fortnightly direct debit. The advance fee is due when you receive a room offer.

## Visa, the Flinders allocation and work after graduation {#section-8}

The subclass 500 visa is lodged online in ImmiAccount after you receive the CoE (Confirmation of Enrolment), and the Department of Home Affairs decides. Conditions as at 1 October 2026:

- the charge starts at $1,740 (A$2,500);
- living costs of $20,650 (A$29,710) a year plus the first 12 months of tuition and $1,390 (A$2,000) for travel, or proof of parents' annual income of at least $61,060 (A$87,856);
- Genuine Student answers in English, up to 150 words each;
- biometrics on request in six Russian cities including Moscow and Saint Petersburg, and in Almaty.

Flinders' indicative allocation for 2026 is 3,000 new international students. In the Department of Education report with data as at 25 September 2026, Flinders held Priority 1 status, and Home Affairs aims to start processing such applications within 1–4 weeks of lodgement (Priority 2: 5–8 weeks; Priority 3: 9–12 weeks; benchmarks based on 2025 lodgements). This affects the queue but not the decision. The National Planning Level for 2027 is 295,000 new international students, unchanged from 2026. Our [Australian student visa](https://www.studyu.org/en/blog-australia-student-visa) guide covers each step.

You can work up to 48 hours a fortnight while studying. After a bachelor's or coursework master's degree, a graduate aged 35 or under can receive a two-year 485 visa. Adelaide is a Category 2 regional area: a graduate of an Adelaide campus who lives only in regional areas for two years on the first 485 visa may seek one more year. Home Affairs decides on the 485 visa; see our guide to [working while studying and the 485 visa](https://www.studyu.org/en/blog-working-while-studying-and-485-visa-australia).

## Application plan {#section-9}

1. Ten to twelve months ahead. Take IELTS Academic at a test centre and certify and translate your certificate or degree.
2. Six to eight months ahead. Apply online yourself (Russian citizens) or through a registered Flinders agent (citizens of Kazakhstan and other listed countries). Choose foundation, a diploma or a degree.
3. After the offer. Accept it, pay the deposit and receive the CoE; apply for housing.
4. Two to three months ahead. Arrange OSHC and lodge the subclass 500 application.
5. After foundation. Move into the first year; Flinders reassesses your scholarship based on your final percentage.

Lawful payment routes from Russia are covered in [how to pay for studies abroad from Russia](https://www.studyu.org/en/blog-how-to-pay-for-studies-abroad-from-russia); applicants from Kazakhstan can use [studying abroad from Kazakhstan](https://www.studyu.org/en/blog-study-abroad-from-kazakhstan).

## Common mistakes {#section-10}

- Confusing Flinders with Adelaide University. They are different universities with different fees and application routes.
- Applying directly from Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan is on the list of countries whose citizens need a registered Flinders agent.
- Expecting a discount on medicine. Neither Kickstart nor Global awards apply to the Doctor of Medicine programs or to graduate-entry nursing.
- Choosing the one-year MBA for the 485 visa. The program is shorter than 92 weeks.
- Treating the first-year fee as the price of the whole degree. Fees rise every year.

## FAQ {#section-11}

### Can I enter Flinders after Year 11?

Yes, through International Foundation Studies at Flinders University Academy: you need a completed Year 11 equivalent, to be at least 17 and IELTS 5.5, and the program lasts 8 or 12 months. After completing it successfully you move into the first year; Flinders makes the admission decision.

### How much does Flinders cost in 2027?

Bachelor's degrees range from $28,430 (A$40,900) a year for business to $34,470 (A$49,600) for engineering, including the student services fee. Master's degrees cost $27,800–34,820 a year, and the Doctor of Medicine $66,520. Fees rise in every year of study.

### Do I need an agent to apply to Flinders?

According to the published list, Russian citizens do not: they can apply online themselves. Citizens of Kazakhstan, Belarus, Uzbekistan and several other countries need a registered agent when applying from abroad. Either way, Flinders makes the admission decision.

### How is Flinders different from Adelaide University?

They are separate public universities in Adelaide. Adelaide University was formed in 2026 when two other South Australian universities merged, and Flinders was not part of it. Their programs, fees, scholarships and pathway options differ.

### Which scholarships are realistic for Russian students?

The Kickstart award of 20% is open to new international students of any nationality, the 25% Global and 30% Global Excellence awards depend on grades, and the 50% Vice-Chancellor Excellence award is competitive and includes a video. Flinders decides on scholarships.

### How do the international student caps affect a Flinders application?

The government's benchmark for Flinders in 2026 is three thousand new international students, and in the September report the university was at Priority 1, so Home Affairs usually starts processing such applications within 1–4 weeks. Only Home Affairs can grant or refuse the visa.
