# Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR): Admission and Fees

Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) is a public research university in Rotterdam best known for economics, business (Rotterdam School of Management, RSM), medicine (Erasmus MC), law and the social sciences. The Russian school certificate is on EUR's list of diplomas accepted for bachelor's entry, but economics programmes almost always add an English test and a mathematics exam. Non-EEA students pay from $15,330 (€13,500) a year for a bachelor's and from $23,850 (€21,000) for a master's in 2026/27, while RSM master's programmes cost $31,790 (€28,000) in 2027/28. The flagship business bachelor's (IBA) and economics bachelor's (IBEB) are capped, with a 15 January deadline.

## Who EUR suits {#section-1}

Students choose EUR for economics, econometrics, finance, management, medicine and health economics, law and media studies. RSM is the university's business school, not a separate institution: EUR awards RSM's bachelor's and master's degrees. There is no engineering faculty; joint programmes such as Nanobiology run with TU Delft.

Do not confuse the university with Erasmus+, the EU exchange programme. RSM's MBA programmes are aimed at professionals with work experience and recruit separately; this profile covers bachelor's and master's entry.

## Bachelor's entry with a Russian or Kazakh certificate {#section-2}

EUR's 2026/27 general diploma list includes the Russian certificate of secondary general education. Programme rules then apply. For International Bachelor Economics and Business Economics (IBEB) and Econometrics and Operations Research, the Russia entry reads:

- certificate of secondary general education;
- English test mandatory;
- mathematics deficiency exam mandatory, for example the online OMPT: IBEB accepts OMPT-A at 70% or OMPT-B at 60%, while Econometrics accepts only OMPT-D at 75%; resits are not accepted, so the first attempt counts.

For Kazakhstan the same programmes require the certificate with a UNT result, an English test and the maths exam, or the Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools Grade 12 certificate with advanced-level mathematics at A\*–B.

Rules applicants often miss:

- EUR assesses your actual diploma, and recognition or homologation does not replace it;
- SAT and ACT are not accepted for these programmes;
- foundation-year programmes do not count for bachelor's entry;
- English results must be in before the deadline, and online formats (IELTS Indicator, IELTS One Skill Retake, TOEFL Home Edition) are not accepted for students who need a visa.

IBEB and Econometrics require IELTS Academic 6.0 or higher. For school-leaver routes, see [bachelor's in the Netherlands](https://www.studyu.org/en/blog-bachelors-in-the-netherlands).

## Selection and bachelor's deadlines {#section-3}

| Programme | Admission type | Deadline for September 2027 |
| --- | --- | --- |
| International Business Administration (IBA, RSM) | Numerus fixus: 650 places; ranking is 75% grades and 25% motivation answers | Studielink 15 January 2027, OLAF form 31 January; maths and English test results by 15 March |
| International Bachelor Economics and Business Economics (IBEB) | Numerus fixus: 500 places for 2027/28, selection plus weighted lottery | 15 January 2027 |
| International Bachelor in Psychology | Numerus fixus: 120 places, selection assessment | 15 January 2027 |
| Econometrics and Operations Research | Rolling admission, committee review, feedback within six weeks | Maths result before 1 May |
| Erasmus University College (Liberal Arts and Sciences) | Selective; the college houses all first-years near campus | Applications open 1 October |

How the application runs:

1. Register in Studielink, the national application system, from 1 October.
2. Log in to the EUR Admissions Portal and pay $110 (€100); nothing moves until the fee is paid.
3. Upload your certificate and grades, English and maths results, and for capped programmes the selection material.
4. After conditional admission, post certified hard copies of your certificate and final transcript with wet-ink stamps by 1 August. Documents not in Dutch, English, German, Spanish, Italian or French need a sworn translation.

For IBEB, your final-year performance still counts: if you do not reach the required grades by 31 August, you cannot enrol that year.

For IBA, RSM ranks school pupils on their penultimate-year grades and graduates on their final results. RSM sets maths and English conditions per diploma country in its own table, and any required maths exam or English test must be in by 15 March. Check your country's row before applying and, given what EUR requires of the Russian certificate for IBEB, plan for both tests. The IBA fee for 2027/28 is about $17,260 (€15,200).

## Master's programmes {#section-4}

Each EUR master's sets its own requirements and dates. Cultural Economics and Entrepreneurship is typical: applications open on 1 October 2026, the deadline is 15 April 2027 for non-EEA and 15 May for EEA applicants, and non-EEA applicants hear by 1 May. If you have not graduated yet, the bachelor's diploma is due by 1 August, otherwise a conditional offer will not become final.

RSM and Erasmus School of Economics programmes often ask for GMAT or GRE and a higher English score, so check the programme page. National rules are in [master's in the Netherlands](https://www.studyu.org/en/blog-masters-in-the-netherlands).

## Tuition fees {#section-5}

The rates below are institutional fees, paid by anyone without an EU/EEA, Swiss or Surinamese passport; for comparison, the 2026/27 statutory fee is $3,060 (€2,694).

| Programmes | Bachelor's 2026/27 | Master's 2026/27 |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Social and behavioural sciences, philosophy, health policy and management, history and media, law, economics (ESSB, ESPhil, ESHPM, ESHCC, ESL, ESE) | $15,330 (€13,500) | $23,850 (€21,000) |
| Rotterdam School of Management | $15,900 (€14,000) | $29,300 (€25,800); $31,790 (€28,000) for 2027/28 |
| Erasmus Medical Center | $36,560 (€32,200) | $38,720 (€34,100) |
| Erasmus University College | $18,510 (€16,300); $20,210 (€17,800) for 2027/28 | — |
| Selected programmes | — | Research Master in Philosophy $11,700 (€10,300); European Master in Health Economics and Management $10,220 (€9,000) |

Most faculties had not published 2027/28 rates on the check date; RSM and EUC had. Bachelor's students who started in 2025/26 pay a lower transitional rate, which does not apply to new students.

RSM's 18-month MSc International Management / CEMS is charged for its full length: $47,690 (€42,000) for 2027/28.

Living in Rotterdam. EUC estimates first-year housing at about $1,000 (€885) a month and daily expenses at $511 (€450). RSM puts total monthly costs at $1,310–2,270 (€1,150–2,000), well above the IND visa minimum at the top end. Compare cities in [cost of studying in the Netherlands](https://www.studyu.org/en/blog-cost-of-studying-in-the-netherlands).

## Scholarships {#section-6}

Many guides get this wrong. RSM's Erasmus Trustfonds Scholarship for master's students is open only to EEA nationals, so applicants with Russian or Kazakh passports are not eligible. RSM says its scholarships are few and mostly merit-based, and there are none for the pre-master.

EUR does not take part in the government's NL Scholarship ($5,680, €5,000 for the first year) in 2026/27. That leaves external funds and home-country schemes; see [scholarships abroad 2026](https://www.studyu.org/en/blog-scholarships-abroad-2026). Each award is decided by the fund or school that offers it.

## Housing in Rotterdam {#section-7}

Dutch universities do not allocate housing. EUR reserves around 1,200 rooms with several providers, enough for roughly 25% of new international students; everyone else rents privately. EUR advises you not to travel until you have a confirmed room.

The exception is Erasmus University College, which houses all first-years together in the city centre near the college for about $1,000 (€885) a month including utilities. From the second year, EUC students usually rent together, which the college estimates at $6,810–10,220 (€6,000–9,000) a year.

## Visa, residence permit and paying from Russia {#section-8}

After admission, EUR's immigration officers get in touch; EUR, acting as your sponsor, submits the permit request to the Dutch immigration service (IND), and enrolment is not finalised until the immigration requirements are met. Expect a $290 (€254) permit fee; the funds test is the IND's 2026 norm of €1,130.77 a month, so €13,569 ($15,410) for twelve months, plus outstanding tuition. With a conditional offer, keep the postal deadline in mind too: certified hard copies of your certificate must reach EUR by 1 August. The embassy stage, including how to get an MVV slot in Moscow, is in our [Dutch student residence permit](https://www.studyu.org/en/blog-dutch-student-residence-permit) guide.

EUR's admission rules do not bar Russian nationals; the Russian certificate appears in the general list and in programme requirements. The practical limits lie elsewhere: RSM's Erasmus Trustfonds scholarship is for EEA nationals only, and EUR posts payment deadlines in Studielink from early April, so choose a transfer route before then: [how to pay for studies abroad from Russia](https://www.studyu.org/en/blog-how-to-pay-for-studies-abroad-from-russia). Knowledge-security screening does not touch EUR's bachelor's and master's students: there is no law, and the draft concerns researchers.

EUR decides on admission and the IND on the residence permit.

## EUR compared with other universities {#section-9}

| Criterion | EUR | [Maastricht University](https://www.studyu.org/en/university-maastricht) | [University of Amsterdam](https://www.studyu.org/en/university-amsterdam) |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Russian certificate for a bachelor's | Listed; economics adds English and maths tests | Final-year average of at least 4.5 | Completed first year of university required |
| Economics/business bachelor's, non-EEA | $15,330–15,900 (€13,500–14,000), 2026/27 | $15,220 (€13,400), 2027/28 | See the UvA profile |
| Teaching style | Lectures and seminars | Problem-Based Learning in small groups | Lectures and seminars |
| Housing | Rooms for about 25% of internationals | No university housing | Lottery for the first year |

Other Dutch universities also teach economics and business; see [universities in the Netherlands](https://www.studyu.org/en/blog-universities-in-the-netherlands), and for life and study in the country, [study in the Netherlands](https://www.studyu.org/en/country-netherlands).

## Timeline for September 2027 {#section-10}

1. By November 2026: choose a programme, sit IELTS or TOEFL at a test centre, start preparing for the OMPT.
2. From 1 October: register in Studielink and pay $110 (€100) in the EUR portal.
3. By 15 January 2027: complete applications for IBA, IBEB or Psychology.
4. By 15 April: master's applications for non-EEA applicants, unless the programme closes earlier.
5. 15 April: ranking numbers for capped programmes; accept a place within 14 days.
6. May–August: immigration procedure through EUR, tuition payment, certified copies by 1 August, housing search.

## Common mistakes {#section-11}

- Relying on the SAT. IBEB and Econometrics do not accept it.
- Submitting a foundation-year certificate. EUR does not count it for bachelor's entry.
- Leaving the OMPT too late. The maths result must be ready by the deadline, and only the first attempt counts.
- Counting on Erasmus Trustfonds. RSM limits it to EEA nationals.
- Confusing EUR with the Erasmus+ programme.
- Arriving without housing. University rooms cover only about a quarter of international students.

## FAQ {#section-12}

### Can I enter Erasmus University Rotterdam straight after school?

Yes, the Russian certificate is on EUR's list. Economics programmes also require an English test and a maths exam such as the OMPT. IBA and IBEB are capped with a 15 January deadline, and the final decision depends on selection.

### How much does EUR cost for international students?

In 2026/27, non-EEA bachelor's fees start at $15,330 (€13,500) a year and master's fees at $23,850 (€21,000). Medicine costs $36,560–38,720 (€32,200–34,100), and RSM master's programmes cost $31,790 (€28,000) for 2027/28.

### Are RSM and Erasmus University Rotterdam the same university?

Yes. Rotterdam School of Management is EUR's business school. EUR awards RSM's bachelor's and master's degrees, and RSM fees appear in the university's fee table.

### What IELTS score does EUR require?

IBEB and Econometrics and Operations Research require IELTS Academic 6.0 or higher. Some RSM and ESE master's programmes ask for more, as stated on the programme page. Take the test at a centre; online formats are not accepted for students who need a visa.

### Are there scholarships for students from Russia at EUR?

Very few. RSM's Erasmus Trustfonds is open only to EEA nationals, and EUR does not take part in the NL Scholarship in 2026/27. External funds and home-country schemes are the realistic options.

### Does EUR provide accommodation?

EUR reserves around 1,200 rooms, enough for about 25% of new international students; the rest search privately. Erasmus University College houses its first-years itself at about $1,000 (€885) a month.

### Can StudyU help with an application to EUR?

StudyU's paid service covers choosing between IBA, IBEB and other programmes, planning the OMPT and English tests, preparing the file and the visa steps. Erasmus University Rotterdam decides on admission and the IND on the residence permit.
