## Higher education in the UK at a glance {#c1}

The UK is home to one of the oldest academic traditions, and British degrees are recognized worldwide. The main difference from many countries is shorter programs: a bachelor's usually takes 3 years and a master's just 1, which saves time and money.
Study is highly specialized from the start: students look into their chosen field right away. All teaching is in English.

## Tuition and fees {#c3}

Tuition in the UK applies, with costs depending on the university and program; scholarships exist for talented students. At the same time, shorter programs partly offset the cost by saving a year.

## How admission works {#c4}
Admission is based on your diploma (often via a Foundation year for CIS school graduates) and an IELTS certificate. Master's admission is based on your bachelor's degree.

The route:
1. Path after school. With an 11-year certificate, UK bachelor's entry runs through a Foundation year at a university or A-levels; master's programs accept bachelor's diplomas directly.
2. Application. Undergraduate - via UCAS: the main deadline falls in late January, while Oxford, Cambridge and medicine close in mid-October. Master's - directly to the university, mostly with rolling deadlines.
3. Language. Degree-level study requires CEFR B2 or higher - typically IELTS (Academic or UKVI depending on the program).
4. Offer → deposit → CAS. After an unconditional offer you pay a deposit (usually £2,000-5,000) and the university issues a CAS, valid for six months.
5. Student Visa. £558 fee plus the £776-per-year Immigration Health Surcharge. Proof of funds: £1,334/month for London or £1,023/month elsewhere, for nine months. Decisions from abroad take about three weeks.
6. Payments and logistics. For many international families the real barrier isn't the visa - it's paying deposits from abroad and booking connecting flights. That's exactly the part an agency takes over.
## Your 11-year certificate is enough
UK universities require 12-13 years of schooling, so there's no direct road from an 11-year school to a bachelor's - and that's fine: a university Foundation year closes the gap in a year and comes with a conditional offer. The second option is A-levels at a college - two years, but with access to the most selective universities. ## Master's degrees in the UK
The fastest British degree: one year instead of the usual two. A bachelor's diploma is accepted directly, with no entrance exams - transcript, motivation letter and references decide; business schools may ask for GMAT/GRE. Top programs run up to £38,000, but most cost noticeably less, and the one-year format saves a full year of living costs.

The UK is a premium route, and its real complexity sits in payment logistics rather than the visa. Deposits, tuition transfers, bank statements, connecting flights - all solvable with early planning and support.

### Why are UK programs shorter?
