The Czech Republic is one of the most popular European options for CIS students: tuition in Czech at public universities is free, the cost of living is low, and Prague and other cities are compact and safe. Degrees are recognized across the EU.
Education follows the Bologna system. Studying in Czech is free (a certificate, usually B2, is needed); in English it is paid, but cheaper than in Western Europe.

## How admission works {#c4}
Admission is based on your diploma (with recognition) and proven language: Czech (for free programs) or English. Some fields have entrance exams.

Step by step:
1. Passport check first. Czech study visas are effectively unavailable to Russian citizens - the route works for Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and other CIS passports.
2. Choose the language. Czech-taught public programs are tuition-free; English-taught ones cost about €2,000-6,000 a year.
3. Nostrification. Certificate recognition with possible subject exams - start months ahead.
4. Entrance exams. Most public universities test in spring; applications close in winter (usually end of February).
5. Language year. The classic route: a year of Czech at a university course, reaching B2 and free tuition.
## After 11th grade: direct entry
Passports first: for Russian citizens the Czech route is effectively closed - study visas are not being issued. Everything below applies to applicants from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan, for whom Czechia remains one of the EU's best value plays. The 11-year certificate is accepted after nostrification; the real filters are B2 Czech and university entrance exams. ## Master's degrees in Czechia
Bachelor diplomas pass the same nostrification; Czech-taught study is free, English-taught moderate. Prague's technical universities and Masaryk University in Brno carry real EU job-market weight.
